Making Meadville

Through her ongoing series Meeting Meadville, local photographer Kelly Rhoades documents the people and organizations contributing to the city’s character and vitality. Published weekly on her Facebook page, Kelly Rhoades Photography, the feature blends portraiture and interviews to showcase the stories behind Meadville’s businesses. The project continues to foster strong community connection and visible support for local enterprise.

In this installment, Kelly turns her lens toward the Cattail Cafe Hatch Hollow, located inside of Hatch Hollow at 945 Market Street in Meadville. Kelly Rhoades spotlights Dietrich Williams, the creative force behind Cattail Café. With a focus on fresh, health-conscious offerings and meaningful connection through food, Dietrich is carving out a distinct niche in Meadville’s dining landscape.

Meeting Meadville with Kelly Rhoades

Meeting Meadville now takes us to the DELICIOUS Cattail Cafe located inside Hatch Hollow. I met up with Dietrich Williams so he could give me a little preview of what goes on behind that charming dutch door. Whether you are partial to more classic offerings, or fancy something a bit more unique, Dietrich has something for you. Not only does it taste incredible, but it’s also food you can feel good about. I highly recommend you pop in and give it a try, whether it’s for brunch or lunch.

Tell us a little about your business!

“Cattail Cafe is a new breakfast and lunch spot in Meadville focused on serving healthy and fresh food. (Working towards sourcing locally!!)”

What inspired you to start your business?

“I didn’t always realize it, but food is how I connect—to the present moment, to the people I share it with, to the earth that sustains us, and to the part of myself that longs to create and belong. It still feels crazy that something so simple—a meal made with my own hands—has become what others gather around. For me, the café is simply an attempt to extend the feeling that food gives me: a space built on connection, care, and the quiet joy of sharing something real.”

What is something that makes your business unique?

“We use no refined sugar or oil!! Everything is cooked in either olive oil or butter and sweetened with local maple syrup or honey.”

In your opinion, what is the best thing about Meadville?

“Meadville is special because of the people, it wouldn’t be the same without the collective effort of the community.”

Which Meadville business, aside from your own, is your favorite?

“The only right answer has to be Hatch Hollow right?!? The space is beyond what my words can describe, the closer you look the more detail and thoughtfulness you will find.”
